Shots Fired at DeKalb County Elementary School, No Injuries Reported

One person is in police custody after shots were fired at a DeKalb County elementary school Tuesday afternoon (August 20).

The shooting occurred at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy, according to WSB-TV. The charter school is located on 2nd Avenue in Decatur.

There were no injuries reported. The suspect is being described as a white male dressed all in black who was armed with an AK-47 assault rifle. He reportedly surrendered peacefully.

Children are being taken to Wal-Mart at Gresham Road and I-20 where parents can pick them up.

A woman in the school office called WSB-TV to report that there was a shooter in the school. She told an assignment desk editor that the gunman asked her to call WSB-TV and the police. Shots could be heard over the call.
